What a disposable address covers, and what it does not
A disposable address hides one thing: the mailbox you actually read. That is a real and useful boundary. The company that wanted an email to show you a price list ends up with an address that stops existing, so the list it sells you on next year is worthless, and the breach it suffers in three years leaks nothing that reaches you.
What it does not hide is you. Your browser still reports an IP address to the site that asked for the email. Your card, if you pay for something, carries your name. If you sign a message with the same nickname you use everywhere, the address was never the identifying part. Treating a throwaway inbox as anonymity is the single most common mistake people make with it, and it is worth being clear about that before you rely on one.
There is also a legal shape to this. Using an address that expires is your business, not a crime, in every jurisdiction we are aware of. Breaking a site's own terms by opening a second account is a different matter, and the difference between a rule and a law is worth understanding.
How the inbox on this page works
Messages are not fetched by asking the server over and over. The page holds one open connection and the server pushes a message down it the moment mail lands. That is why a verification code shows up here about as fast as it would in a normal mail app, and why leaving this tab open costs almost nothing.
Every message is rendered inside an isolated frame with scripts stripped out. Marketing mail is full of tracking pixels and active content, and a service that displayed all of it faithfully would be handing your browser to whoever sent the message. The clock, stated plainly
Leave a guest mailbox alone for twenty four hours and it is deleted, the clock running from whenever you last looked at it. Request a different address and the previous one dies on the spot. There is no grace period hiding in that: the old inbox and its entire contents cease to exist at the moment you click, so lift out anything you still want beforehand.
An account moves the numbers without changing the principle. A mailbox then runs for seven days after your latest sign in, and any one message keeps for up to thirty days. Attachments live exactly as long as the message that carried them. None of it is archived, none of it is backed up, and mail that has been deleted cannot be brought back by us or by anybody else. That is a decision about how the thing is built, not a shortcoming we intend to correct later.
Domains are consumables, and we say so
Most services in this category pretend their domains last forever. They do not. Every public domain used for throwaway mail eventually lands on the blocklists that signup forms check, and from that point some sites refuse it. This is normal, it happens to everyone, and pretending otherwise just leaves you confused when a form rejects an address that worked last week.
So we treat domains as stock that burns. There is a set of them in rotation, they are replaced as they wear out, and the one that wears out fastest is the domain of this site itself, which is why it is not handed out by default. What a free account changes
Four things, and all of them are free. There is no paid tier and no trial countdown.
You get domains that are not published on the front page, which matters because an unpublished domain reaches the blocklists later. You get ten mailboxes at once instead of one, which is the difference between juggling and working. You get attachments. And your mailboxes become private: a guest inbox can be opened by anyone who knows or guesses the address, while an account's inbox belongs only to you.
That last point deserves emphasis. Guest mail here is not secret. The address is the only key, and short addresses get guessed. Where the contents are a discount code, that costs you nothing at all. Where they are something a stranger reading over your shoulder would spoil, sign in first.
Receiving only, permanently
Mail cannot be sent from an address created here, today or at any point in the future. This is not a feature sitting in a queue somewhere. Hand anonymous strangers the ability to send and what you are running is a spam relay by the end of the week; the domains get refused everywhere a few weeks after that, and the receiving half dies alongside them. Refusing to send is precisely what keeps everything else standing.
Automated access is closed off on the same reasoning. Nothing burns a domain faster than addresses generated in bulk by a script, and each domain lost that way removes a working address from somebody using the site with their hands.
Where this service is the wrong tool
If the address might ever be needed to get back into something, do not use a disposable one. Banking, government portals, employment, shipping, domain registration, cloud storage: the recovery address has to outlive the account, and this one is designed to do the opposite. The same applies to anything tied to money or identity.
The right tool there is a permanent mailbox, or an alias from a provider who keeps it as long as you want it. Knowing when to reach for that instead is more useful than any feature we could add here.
